Mi tío Julio César se fue a los EE.UU en el éxodo del Mariel en 1980. Durante los siguientes 15 años intentó sin éxito reencontrarse con mi familia, hasta que contrajo el VIH y desapareció sin dejar rastro. Las cartas y postales que sirvieron de puente entre ellos, son hoy mi brújula para encontrarlo.

My uncle Julio Cesar left for the USA in the 1980 Mariel Exodus. Over the next 15 years he tried unsuccessfully to reunite with my family until he contracted HIV and disappeared without a trace. The letters and postcards that served as a bridge between them, are today the compass to find it.
